Science, Creation & EvolutionFlatfishesHere's a bit of math: The last of (at least) three mass extinctions took place '65 million atomic years' ago. This was caused by a meteorite impact and not the noachian deluge as you say. Let's take a quick look at what science has to tell us about mass extinctions. Here are two other notable mass extinctions: the Ordovician extinction (440-450 million 'atomic' years ago), which was the second largest and the largest one of all: the Permian extinction (about 250 million 'atomic' years ago.) Mass Extinctions: 440 million 'atomic' years ago 250 million 'atomic' years ago 65 million 'atomic' years ago More about mass extinctions and source of the above info: http://park.org/Canada/Museum/extinction/extincmenu.html I don't know how long an 'atomic year' lasts according to creationists views, but I don't need that informatin to make my point: ------- MAY = million atomic years YECs say that the world is aprox. 6000 real ('real' as opposed to 'atomic') years old. The noachian deluge took place 4000 real years ago, according to YECs. You wrote, Tuppence, that the mass extinctions of 65 MAY ago was not the same that killed the animals during the big flood. Let's say that the mass extinctions of 250 MAY ago were caused by the deluge. That would mean that 250 million 'atomic' years equals 4000 real years. That would consequently mean that: 250 million : 65 million = 3.85 4000 : 3.85 = 1039, roughly a millennium. The impact that killed the dinosaurs world wide would have happened a mere 1000 years ago. People would have written about this event if it had happened. We see no indication that a piece of rock with the capability to wipe out an entire species impacted with Earth 1000 years ago. (If the noachian deluge took place 440 million 'atomic' years ago - ordovivian extinction - then the dinosaurs were wiped out about 600 years ago) |
