So often we Christians drive people away from Jesus by our strict and fundamental views that have nothing to do with the Gospel. This doesn't mean we compromise truth.. we contextualise it... just like Jesus did. He said one thing to the woman of Samaria, and another to the Pharisees. He dealt with the woman who committed adultry in a totally different way to the money changers in the Temple.. yet never once did He compromise truth in order to meet people at their point of deepest need.
You just pointed out the difference between being a fundamentalist and a legalist. The Pharisees were legalists.
