Your example with Shapespeare is wrong as well. When the two year old sees it, it sees the paper with some black things on it. Hence the paper is the input.
Twenty years later it is not the paper that is the input, but the words that can be read now.
The words were there 18 years ago as well, but not for the brain. Input for the brain was not the same.
