Science, Creation & EvolutionHelix - atheistYou can't say you did not have a choice. Unconditional love cannot be determined when only good happens, therefore God wants us to make a choice in this life. Just imagine a person spending their whole life seperating themselves from God. If they were to enter heaven, they will be kicking and screaming, and God will be dragging them in against their will. As for the devil tormenting people in hell, this is typical of an unbeliever. Even when I wasn't much of a believer I always imagined the devil with a pitch fork and a red tail with a beard. However, when one becomes a believer, they realize those things are not portrayed in God's word. There has to be a distinction between the physical and spiritual. And it is pretty obvious that spiritual things exist. Finally, hell is a place where a person is seperated from the love of God. God does not use Satan in hell by means of torturing people. Satan himself will be tormented in hell as the Bible teaches. The Bible supports the idea of aquiring knowledge (passage were already given to show you). But before acquiring knowledge or finding some mystery of nature (which is essentially why the world advances) one has to have faith before finding it out. And while they are having faith in acquiring that knowledge, they are diligently seeking it. This is what God wants you to do when finding Him! (Deuteronomy 4:9, Job 8:5-6, Matthew 7:7, etc). The same energy secular scientists are using to find out the things of nature, they should be using that energy primarily to test the teachings of God in scripture and His promises, and they will see that God exists for themselves. Not to mention that before testing the teachings and promises of God, there are already tangible reasons to believe in the Holy Bible as God's word that was already mentioned (prophetic evidence, manuscript evidence, historical evidence, the light of creation, and the light of conscience). If you finished reading this post, take my argument in its entirety and do not divide it and come up with different arguments because the context of the discussion we are having can easily be changed. My final point involves something Madeleine mentioned. Which is becoming a believer based on the evidence before you. Therefore Helix, your point of being a religious zealot is flawed itself. If you want to make that argument with other religions, then your point is valid. However, Christianity is not only a burning in the bosom, but intelligence is involved. As Christ Himself said, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself." (Luke 10:27). |
