Science, Creation & EvolutionHelix - atheistWell, you have to first realize that whether it is reasoning or any truth (even the truths of science), faith has to be initialized. I'm not talking about a blind faith, I'm talking about a faith with legitimate reasons to believe. The Bible says without faith, you cannot please God (Hebrews 11:6). God does not expect one to have blind faith, because the Bible teaches that we should seek knowledge (Proverbs 1 and 2, Proverbs 8:12, etc), so this is faith in reasoning (prophetic evidence, manuscript evidence, historical evidence, the light of creation, and the light of conscience). So on the day of judgement, if someone was to say that they did not know God existed or that they did not have enough faith, that will not be a good enough reason. I say this because a legitimate rebuttal from God can be the fact that you believed in other things in life. And even if they were true and based on scientific fact, the facts had to be established with faith to begin with. So you initialize faith and seek God will all your heart and soul, and you shall find Him. This is a promise He makes in His word. That's another way to test God's existance--to test his promises! Also note (not specifically directed towards you): Many people choose not to believe in God and come up with a whole bunch of reasons why by rationalizing Him out of existance. It would be better if they just said "I want to live my life accountable to myself and not to God," because this is what they basically are saying. Not to mention, it takes more faith to be an atheist than it does to believe in God, so someone saying they do not have enough faith in God is not an excuse by that argument also. Blind faith: Jumping out of a window believing you can fly is an example of blind faith because (1) There is no reason to (2) It can have a severe consequence (3) God did not tell you to (if you claim He told you to before you jumped and you ended up dying, then we know He didn't tell you that you will fly. Reasoned Faith: Believing the train will get me to my destination is faith based on reason because (1) it applies to other people as true and (2) I've experienced the train getting me to my destination before. (3) If it doesn't get me to my destination my argument is flawed, however the Bible teaches not to put to much trust in the things of this world. Therefore faith in God is the only thing that will last. |
