We need cellulose. If we could digest it, we would not only get horridly fat, but constipated as well. Cellulose helps keep our digestive tract functioning smoothly and regularly.

About unbiased sources -- there ain't no such animal. The best anyone can do is present material from a variety of sources. All will have bias one way or another. In the matter of the reference on the appendix, the point is NOT where it came from, but whether it is accurate or not. If it is not accurate, we would all appreciate being corrected and the references used for that correciton.
However, when we look at the good cellulose, for instance, does in our bodies, there are no mistakes about not being able to digest it. However, as the lead post pointed out, if we evolved from life forms which could digest cellulose, it would be nonsense to think we had lost such a valuable source of energy. On the other hand, if we were created this way, it all makes very good sense.
