Christian/Muslim ThreadsIs Christian Faith in Vain? What Indeed Was the Sign of Jonah? The prayer is not as you wrote. Jesus prayed, saying, "O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done". Jesus prayed a second time, and prayed, saying, "O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done". Jesus prayed the third time, saying the same words. What cup was Jesus talking about?? And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it; For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. "For if that 1st covenant(Ex. 19: 5-8) had been faultless, then should no place have been sought for the 2nd covenant. For finding fault with THEM, he saith. Behold the day come, saith the Lord, when I will make a NEW COVENANT with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah." The 1st covenant was ratified by the sprinkled blood of an ox {Ex. 24: 7,8}. The 2nd covenant was instituted and ratified not by the blood of an ox, but rather by the blood of Jesus at His death. {Heb. 12:24; 13: 20; Matt. 26:28}. It went into effect when Jesus died. "For a testament, will {covenant} is of force after men are dead: otherwise it is of no strength at all while the testator liveth." {Heb. 9:17}. "Though it be but a man's covenant, yet if it be confirmed, no man disannuleth, or addeth thereto." {Gal. 3:15}. This means that AFTER the death of Christ, NOTHING could be ADDED to or TAKEN away from the new covenant. This is why Jesus introduced the Lord's Supper on Thursday night before He died...so that it would come under the new covenant. {Matt. 26:28}. http://biblia.com/jesusbible/jeremiah2c.htm |
