Just a note -- C14 dating is a bit nuts for a variety of reasons, and there is a good deal of circularity in the arguments. You have a good point there. Dating with argon is also very chancy because argon migrates so easily. However radiometric dating which is not of carbon or argon is generally pretty accurate and does not rely on any circularity. It is good to remember, though, that the dates these are giving us are "atomic time" and cannot be considered orbital time, as atomic processes have slowed down through time.
