A couple of points, gerani:
First, what you have been led to believe is involved in Hinduism, and probably in Buddhism as well, is a very sanitized, westernized, palatable version of what they really are. Karma is not a gentle thing. It is not a way to be 'humbled.' It is payback time, ounce for ounce, deed for deed. It is absolute justice via the deception of reincarnation and justice without any concept of mercy or forgiveness involved. The idea of 'negating' your karma via repentance is a uniquely western twist. In true Hindu karma, repentance means nothing at all. Justice is justice. Period.
Second, the natural resources of India and Africa have nothing to do with the spiritual degradation of their peoples which has been accomplished by Hinduism and Buddhism. I was not referring even vaguely to natural resources, but rather to the human resources. If karma led to good things, we would see that in these areas of the world. But what we see is misery, starvation, lack of regard for human life, segregations, worship of animals and stone figures, and some very, very hard hearts among the upper divisions of both religions. Buddhism isn't quite as bad as Hinduism in this last area, but neither have shown any fruits in regard to improving the people who follow those paths.
You are also missing the point, especially in Hinduism, regarding the physical, material world. It is not that the physical possessions don't bring happiness, it is that, to a true Hindu, all that is physical is 'maya' or illusion. The physical does not really exist, and one of the major goals is to become so entangled with the demonic spirit world that the physical world is completely ignored. This, by the way, wreaks havoc on families when one of the parents follows this 'path'.
Enlightenment is NOT 'seeing God in Jesus' for me. Jesus IS God. We are His creation and not divine at all. Jesus is the Light of the world, and if there is anything to the term 'enlightenment' in reality, it would have to do with knowing Jesus Himself and not looking inside one's sinful and deceitful heart for some kind of 'inner truth.'
Humans have the ability to end suffering and attain God? That is honestly the most ignorant statement I have come across. You are going to end retardation, muscular dystrophy, cystic fibrosis, cancer, tumors, or even just influenza? Yeah, right.... You are going to make sure no longed for little baby is ever again born with the cord around its neck, dead? Go for it! You are going to end the drunk driver that leaves others maimed or dead? You will be a billionaire!
And attain God? God is not a goal. He is our Creator. He either stoops to us, or we go without. You might as well tell an earthworm to sprout wings and attain birdhood as to tell a human he or she can attain God. That is bizarre.
You have been badly deceived. If you are really interested in either Hinduism or Buddhism, I would urge you to actually read the ancient writings of either. Not the Americanized versions, but translations of the real stuff. It's rather nasty.
