Thunder can be explained, as can, lightening, volcanoes, earthquakes, hurricanes, and etc. Science has learned a lot about our physical world however the one thing that science cannot explain is how life began.
The ancients had Zeus and a pantheon of gods who had the same characteristics as man but with powers to make the earth tremble. Modern man is not that much different only instead of gods modern man has "theories" that can "explain" how life began and how the universe came into being. Modern man has replaced Mount Olympus with science.
The modern gods are wrapped in academia and the search for knowledge, which is not really a new set of gods since the Greeks called this gnosis as personified in Sophia or Gnosticism.
The ancients personified creation with gods; modern man has rationalized creation with science. The only real difference is the increase in knowledge. What is not different is man looking for the primary cause of all that is seen and unseen. Zeus has been replaced by physics, Aphrodite has been replaced by psychology, and etc.
As Solomon wrote:
Ecclesiastes 1:9
9 That which has been is that which will be,
And that which has been done is that which will be done.
So, there is nothing new under the sun. NAS
Ecclesiastes 1:2
2 "Vanity of vanities," says the Preacher,
"Vanity of vanities! All is vanity." NAS
