Assalamu alaikum,
If there are hadiths about return of Jesus pbuh, we cannot automatically rule them out saying Qur'an does not mention his return.
Qur'an does not specifically mention his return but says "He (Jesus) is the sign of the hour." The hadiths actually mention that, with more details though.
I guess we should first of all look whether we would be able to reconcile Qur'an and the hadiths. Bediuzzaman Said Nursi offers a solution.
Now, if we take the depiction of Dajjal in the hadith very literally then we have to imagine a weird creature like King Kong. So, Dajjal, as H2O said, might be a system or something alike.
Likewise, Bediuzzaman says return of Jesus (Messiah) might be metaphorical. A quote from http://www.saidnursi.com/symposium/s21e.html
When the Messiah (PUH) appears in the future, a community which Said Nursi calls "Muslim Christians" will emerge, who "will work to unite the true religion of Jesus (PUH) with the reality of Islam." It will also "kill and rout the society of the Dajjal, thus saving humanity from atheism."
Sounds ok for me. Bediuzzaman died 44 yeras ago. Today "Muslim Christians" might be reinterpreted as Muslims converts. Thats my opinion though.
A word for Liberate. Tpofto is right in saying that this is not an issue Muslims would deeply split on.
Finally, we cannot rule out hadiths without asking the right questions.
