It was not an assumption that I had made. Please excuse me if I lead you to believe this. Also I was refering to Christian women in general of the western world as in regards to public dress, not what you wear in the privacy of your home etc...
The common way women of the west dress is a modern custom. Within 60 yers ago such a thing it self was considered degrading for a woman that symbolized her self as a "BEEP" and was not allowed muchless to wear a bikini on the Beach.
Eastern Orthadox Judaism, and Christianity ie. Armanian Christian women practice wearing Hijab or the covering of the head and having full dress where as the atractive parts of her body are not DISPLAYED such as her chest/breast, legs, and hair in which the religon of Islam practices as well.
The primary reason women are to cover is so they are not HARASSED. The key is PREVENTION. But of course most western women like this attraction that get them selves into trouble. (Note: I am a Westerner)
The like attitude you demonstrated " There is nothing about what I am currently wearing that would cause a man to lust after me. If he still lusts after me, then it's due to his lack of self-control, I am not bringing him into that sin. " is the same attitude of an excuse that other women use to self justify their presentation. However this isnt your case, I was merely giving an example from your statement that other women say.
Would you rather be looked at for you DAZZLING display that may have attracted a man to you or would you rather that a man be attracted to you for you MIND, PERSONALITY, and CHARACTER ?
I would think it would be hard for a man to focus on these qualities in a woman if she displays he attractive parts of her body in which a man would naturally be drawn to.
I would like to make a clearification, the "NIQAB" or covering or veiling the entire body of a woman is not "fardh" or obligatory in Islam. It is optional for a woman and voluntary. Men who force women to do such a thing is wrong and unislamic. Those who do impose a thing from a cultural stand point rather than religiously.
What is "Obligatory" is the covering of her head, and body only leaving her hands and face to be exposed in PUBLIC in which her dress must be loose and not tight showing the silhouette of her body. This is traditionally called "Hijab"
