Christian Music ~ Lyrics and Mp3'sTrue Christian MusicMy apologies to all for not having responded in this thread for a few days. Seems I've fallen quite far behind, and now have quite a bit of catching up to do! No not all. Sorry if I came off that way. I was just trying to get to the point of what you had posted, since it was nothing new to this discussion. As newseed said, this verse in no way says that we are to use evil to fight evil. I can't believe that God would want us to use anything that is evil to combat Satan. If we can use any one thing that is evil to fight against evil, then that would mean that we could use every kind of evil to fight against evil. And I'm pretty sure that nothing good comes from things like pedophilia, murder, abortion, etc........ As has been mentioned, No, not all of the words are to the glory of God - most are meant to bring about good emotions in us. But even so, is it ok if just the words of a song are holy? Shouldn't the whole song be holy/separate? Well, the only argument I have there is that some instruments are so closely associated with the music of the world that whenever anyone hears them, they immediately think of wordly music. If I hear the intro to a song that is loaded with drums and elec. guitars and such, I automatically think it is a worldly song. It isn't until the first time that the singers start mentioning Jesus or faith that I think it might be a Christian song - and even then, secular songs have the name Jesus in them every once in a while too. Is that really a holy song? It sounds like you're using Romans 3:23 as an excuse to not doing things right in the first place, i.e. "Well, Romans says all have sinned so it's to be expected that I won't do everything right." Just because we are sinners doesn't mean have an excuse to keep sinning.
These verses say Jesus ate with sickly people, and that He came to minister to them, not that He used their sinful ways to reach them. This doesn't prove your point at all. If you want to know what Jesus thinks about people who profess to be Christians but still act the same way the world does (IOW, hypocrites), look at Matthew 23. I don't know where you get the idea that we need to change the way God wants us to win the world. Please explain. Last I read, we were to proclaim the truth of the Word of God - that's the only way any will become saved - not by tricking, as it were, lost people to salvation by offering them something that is pretty similar to what they already have. We don't need to change the delivery of God's message to the world by sugar-coating it with worldly music. We need to preach Christ, and Him crucified. Those that will be saved, will be saved, and they will be saved through the preaching of the Word. Those that will not be saved, will not be saved no matter what kind of music we play to them. But God doesn't want us to be unholy while we're having fun. It's nice that you think that your worldly music is honoring to God, but what does He think? I still don't see how you can justify it when God calls you to be separate. OK, so you've given two examples of how we are supposed to be separated from the world. Why does it stop at music then? That's the point. What's right for me should play no part in how I worship God because I am a totally depraved, sinful human being, and worship is not for me in the first place - it is for God. So what I really need to do is turn to God and ask Him what is right for Him. |
