Christian Music ~ Lyrics and Mp3'sTrue Christian MusicOh, right... I forgot about Eminem's new CD "O Sacred Head Now Wounded." Granted, some music that is considered traditional church music did not start out as such, but Christian music has always been distinct. So if the message is ok, it doesn't matter that the music is causing you to want to dance around and act like a pagan? Shouldn't the separation be in all aspects of the music, not just in one part? Oh yeah, I forgot that when God said "be you holy even as I am holy" He really meant that you only need to be partially holy. Partial holiness or partial separation is about as good as telling a partial truth. God must love Christmas time, then, 'cause that's the time of year when all the songs are about Him, thus everyone's a God-glorifying Christian. Seriously, if lyrics are the only thing that makes a song "Christian," then what happens if Marilyn Manson starts singing about God? Does he automatically become someone who is living a separate lifestyle and glorifying God just because his lyrics are good? But does that make the action any more acceptable to God? Just because God used 9/11 to His glory, does that mean He condones that type of terrorist activity? This argument does not back up the point you are trying to make. By saying that God is powerful enough to use the world's music to glorify Himself, you're saying that He accepts and condones whatever we do and uses it to glorify Himself. That's a very different argument than saying that He uses the sins of everyone to bring about His ultimate glorification. I think it is very telling that you wrote the following: Why are you content to do whatever and think that God will turn it into something good? Should you just try to do something that is good in the first place? OK, the pedophile example was a poor one. But what about a smoker? Smoking is not explicitly forbidden in the Bible, yet it is a sin to defile our bodies - the temples of God. A smoker who goes on smoking can use your argument to justify their continued sin, i.e. "God will turn my smoking into something that glorifies Him." Does that make his smoking OK? |
