Rejoicing and Praising Jesus Christ Forum! So So sad, is it the Devil? This isn't true. All throughout the OT, the name used for God implies His plurality. And many of the statements written imply this as well. You don't need to look any further than the creation account to see this. "God said 'Let us make man in our image.' " I can understand where you would see that there would be a problem. If blaspheming the Holy Spirit is unpardonable, why isn't blaspheming the Father unpardonable also, since we maintain that they are one. This is a very good question, and I think that the way to answer it is to recognize where the three persons of the Godhead are different. I don't know if you saw my post in another thread, but there I outlined that the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are one when it comes to their essense, however they are three when it comes to their economy, or how they get things done. Taking this into consideration, we see that the Holy Spirit is the one who is working in the world today and convicting men of sin, not the Father or the Son. Blaspheming the Holy Spirit is basically defined as attributing the work of the Spirit to Satan. Likewise, if you needed to define them, blaspheming the Father would be attributing the work of the Father to Satan, and blaspheming the Son would be attributing the work of the Son to Satan. Since neither the Father or the Son are actively working in the world today, it's impossible to attribute their work to Satan, thus blapheming the Father or the Son is impossible. Therefore, only the blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is possible. Ultimately, yes, this is blasphemy of God, but the only person of the Godhead that you can blaspheme is the Holy Spirit, so blasphemy of the Holy Spirit and blasphemy of God are exactly the same thing. If you blaspheme the Holy Spirit, you are blaspheming God since the Holy Spirit is God. If you blaspheme God, you are blaspheming the Holy Spirit since the Holy Spirit is the only one that it is possible to blaspheme against. *whew* ... I've never used the word "blasphemy" so much! My fingers are tired!! |
