Marrijuana (cannabis) A.K.A -Hemp
Well we`ve all heard of this weed. Did you know that hemp has been discovered to be used by human`s as far back as we`ve looked?
The earliest record of it`s use for clothing have been found In Taiwan, dated to about 10,000 years ago. The ancient chinese "book of rites" said that mourners at funerals should wear hemp fabric as a sign of respect. Marijuanna turns up as a hallowed substance many times throughout history. The Chinese are among the first documented users of pot for it`s psycheadelic properties, I.E. ingesting it, and somewhere around the first century BC, they started burning it as incense, noting it`s hallucinatory effects. (especially if one were sitting in the smoke from it for several hours)
This brings us to The bible. Was it used in the Bible?
There is alot of arguements over this, but research does indicate it was used as incense, and in the production of holy oils.
In exodus, there is instructions on the incense to be burned in the tabernacle. It was to include: myrrh, cinnamon and 'fragrant cane'. The hebrew words translated 'fragrant kane' are 'kanneh bosm'
It is believed that "sweet smelling" and "fragrant" Cane are one and the same, through historical accounts.
Fragrant cane (Kanneh Bosm -plural, or Kaneh bos-singular, in the Hebrew dialect) is mentioned in other parts of the bible, for instance:
Isaiah 43:24
"Thou hast bought me no sweet cane with money, neither hast thou filled me with the fat of thy sacrifices."
Jeremiah 6:20
"To what purpose cometh there to me incense from Sheba, and the sweet cane from a far country? Your burnt offerings are not acceptable, nor your sacrifices sweet unto me."
Exodus 30:22-3 The Holy Anointing Oil
"Moreover the Lord spoke to Moses, saying: "Also take for yourself quality spices--five hundred shekels of liquid myrrh, half as much sweet-smelling cinnamon, two hundred and fifty shekels of sweet-smelling cane."
discovered in 1936, the connection between kaneh bosm in the Old Testament as the original Semitic Hebrew origins of the word cannabis.
Hebrew University in Jerusalem in 1980 confirmed this information as correct. "
So was Moses a pothead?
Maybe, I said I was a skeptic, but this would be a sound theory. It all hinges on the fragrant cane vs sweet smelling cane debate, IMO. And there is certainly room for interpretation.
Does Pot alter your consciousness? It sure does, we know this as fact, just as we know it has always been around mankind, and has been used in one form or another for at least ten thousand years.
Although I have tried it, and didn`t see God, I`ve read that ingesting it causes far more psycheadelic symptoms, such as hallucinations. I also presume that sitting in a tent of pot smoke all day would seriously mess you up.
(ps, I don`t use it, I never really liked the stuff)
-stay tuned for more observations..
