Creation of JCF Statement of FaithDo babies goto heaven? So you're saying that salvation is dependant on the child's praying? Last I checked, praying was a work, but we cannot do any works to obtain our salvation. Salvation is totally and completely the work of God. But you would serve a God who says "there is no other way to the Father but through the Son" and then turns around and lets babies into heaven by default? It seems to me that if God lets babies into heaven by default, then Jesus is a liar when He says "no one comes to the Father but by me." But God cannot lie. This verse can't solely apply to babies. I have a mother and father who could forsake me, so this verse could apply to me, a grown man. This verse was spoken to a prophet, so of course he was chosen before he was born. You can't say that this applies to all babies though. If anything, this verse proves my point. Before Jeremiah was even conceived, God elected him to special service for Him. If God elects some, then it stand to reason that some are not elect. If we believe that we cannot do anything to earn our salvation, then it also stands to reason that election not only applies to service but also to salvation itself. And since election applies to salvation, then those that are not elect will not be saved. This does not make God any less merciful. Epistle Online, you basically said that a God that sends babies to hell is an unmerciful God. I disagree. We all deserve hell. A God that sends everyone (including babies) to hell is not unmerciful - He would be just. However, He has given grace and mercy to his elect. We don't have any right to judge God or call Him unmerciful because of who He decides to gives that grace and mercy to. How about some context please. This verse is in the middle of a story about a shepherd who has lost one of his sheep. The shepherd leaves the 99 and goes out to find the lost one. At this point Jesus says it's not the will of God that any of these little ones should perish. The "little ones" that He's referring to are the elect ones of God - those who He is going out to find. Jesus doesn't go out looking for sheep that belong to another shepherd - He looks for the ones that belong to Him. And they belong to Hiim because the have been given to Him (elected) by the Father (John 17:11 I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine). I don't think abortion's right either. I don't see how this "verse" applies to the discussion. |
