The concept of what's "outside" the universe might be confusing, but the reality is we can never get there.
Imagine an ant, living in a 2 dimensional world. Up and down have no meaning for him, only forward and backwards, left and right. He happily scurries around oblivious to the notion of any other dimension. Now plonk the hypothetical ant on a massive 3D sphere, a huge beachball for example. At his tiny level, the surface appears flat, and he decides to wander off and find the the "end" of the ball. But no matter how far he goes, he'll never reach it. In fact, he'll end up where he started if he moves in a straight line for long enough. At this point the ant could be forgiven for being rather confused. And this is how our universe is for us. Crazy stuff.
