Scientists following the "worldview"?
Nope. Scientists perform experiments and come up with theory to try and explain it. [or formulate theories and then test them]. In the case of radiometric dating, the theory is so complete as to be practically exact. As such, radiometric dating, when used in a sensible context by objective professionals, is a reliable tool for ascertaining the rough age of certain materials.
The idea that scientists have come up with theories like the Big Bang and Evolution to fit it with modern society and its viewpoints is just not valid. These people aren't trying to disregard God or his word, although many do not follow it. They are objectively trying to describe the world He created. If you want an extreme example take Mr Boltzmann, father of Statistical Mechanics. His new "blasphemous" science didn't fit it too well with the "worldview" of his time. And he was driven to hang himself.
A tad extreme perhaps, but you get my point. These scientific theories are highly useful tools to accurately describe the wonders of God's creation. If they make you rethink what the first book of the Bible says, is that a bad thing? Should you just discount them out of hand? If you don't want to accept them after careful investigation, fair enough. Some of these theories cannot be "proved" as such. Just like ancient man couldn't "prove" the sun would come up. What remains is the fact that many Christians worldwide can reconcile their thoughts on the Bible with these "secular" notions. [that's the last set of inverted commas, promise].
But as my final point, for any non-Christians reading this, [not just the person who shotgunned that screen name first], all of this mild debate we're having in this particular thread is all well and good. It might appear to you that some of us supposedly unified Christians are fighting like cats and dogs. Yes, people like Beads and myself have opinions which are miles apart on some minor issues. But we know we're just talking, expressing our own view points, and listening to those of others. We're still good mates, and brothers in Christ more to the point. These little, minor things like "were there dinosaurs in the garden of Eden" come up precisely because they are minor, and there is little concerning them in God's word. The BIG, really important issues of our religion, something that all the Christians here wholeheartedly love and agree on, are what really matter. The discussions we have about them might not be as interesting or inflammatory, but that's because we all know the one truth. Take a peek at the "Statement of Faith" post on the forum for more info.
