Archivedhinduism: THE FACTS.That's not how I read it. I read it to say that the soul reincarnates until it reaches the point of liberation from the cycle of rebirth, and that no one will be deprived of the destiny of being liberated from that cycle. Destiny implies something that will happen in the future (liberation) not something that you're already involved in (cycle). Ok, so there's no literal hell in hinduism. So everyone ends up in heaven eventually no matter what. It just takes some people longer (more reincarnations) than others. Hmmm.... Doesn't seem to me like there's any real incentive to do good. I mean, sure if you want to go to heaven, you do good (whatever that is), but if you don't do good, you get to come back and live again. Sure you might be in a little less fortunate situations with your next life, but think of all the opportunities to do things you've never done before. I mean, if I'm a bad guy and I get reincarnated as a fly - how fun! I've always wanted to be able to fly!! So what if I get swatted on some guy's back porch! It's all good, because I just get to come back as something else next time - maybe something better (if I was a good fly - speaking of which, is there a moral code for flies?). Still doesn't make sense. How is it easier to have someone else tell you what is right when ultimately, according to you, you are the only one who can decide what is right for you (and even then, of course, you just hope for the best)? You're right. This isn't the thread to talk about abortion. My apologies. I was on a roll, and my fingers typed faster than my mind was thinking. Ok, I understand what it says. But I still don't see how you can accept True Christianity as a way to heaven, when Christianity itself teaches that it is the only way to heaven. If you as a hindu say that, yes, what Christianity teaches about getting to heaven is true because all religions are true, then you are saying that when Christianity says there's only one way to heaven it is true. But this is not what your religion says. Hence the contradiction. You can't believe both. |
