For some it is a mental illness. As to being cured of homosexuality cured is the wrong word. You can choose to overcome the desires or you can choose to act on the desires.
If they want to change, that is fine. If they don't want to and they keep getting pestered by religious zealots (not saying that's any of you guys), then it is not fine.
Homosexuality cannot be treated with drugs, aversion therapy, electric shock therapy, or chemical therapy. All the barbaric treatments that gay men were subjected to by "mental health professionals" in the past never worked.
Let's be glad they didn't add lobotomy to that mix and that they don't still practice that stuff.
On the other hand gay activists refuse to admit that proper counseling offered to motivated individuals can and has helped people overcome a behavior they wanted to change.
Can you give me a number? Mind you that "people" is not a number.
Dr. Spitzer who was a major player in removing homosexuality as a pathological condition from the DSM III reversed his position in 2002 to the shock and amazement of gay activists.
I wonder why he/she would do that.
If you have no desire to check out what science has demonstrated over the last 50 years that is your right. However, if you are going to take a dogmatic position that homosexuality is genetic and untreatable you better know what you are talking about.
I'm sure it is very treatable, but I have no idea how many homosexuals actually *want* to be treated. Has there ever been a survey that counted the amount of people that wanted to be treated?
