Science, Creation & EvolutionPhilosophy: free or determined will and the character of GodAs I said, the Bible states God's character as just. To my mind justice can only be given in case one is accountable for his action; yet I tried to explain that God's omnipowerful abilities could imply that he predefines or determines our lives completely. If that is the case we could not be accountable for our sins and his judgement could not be just. To work around this problem I actually assumed, that God must limit himself. In this case justice IS given, when God allows the individuals to choose "not be saved" because "they get what they deserve" as a just consequence of their very own action which they are accountable for. In a predefined life such a consequence would not be just anymore due to the missing accountability. Justice and mercy are two different things. Sometimes they exclude each other. The merciful spares a live although death might have been just. Forgiving the sins is an act of mercy as you do not have to pay for them. Could you also explain to me, why you have chosen the term "non-elect"? I do not think God does elect some, while others stay non-elects, but I think "that all men are created equal". It is a fascinating idea ... I will think about it. Maybe I'll have some new ideas about the consequences tomorrow . |
