Archivedhinduism: THE FACTS.[sarcasm] You mean I shouldn't judge all of hinduism on the basis of a few people who are involved in cults? But if I look at all hindus, I might actually get a realistic view of what hinduism is about..... and I don't want that because I want to keep my prejudiced, intolerant views. [/sarcasm] Come on, don't you see that we're all playing the same dumb game here. We're picking out the bad choices of a few people in the other person's religion and turning that into a stereotype for the whole religion. Christianity as it is taught in the Bible does not say to go out and conquer the world by force and kill all those opposed to you. And I'm sure neither does Hinduism. But there are always people who will twist our religions so that they can justify their actions. If we can boil it down to what the true beliefs of our religions are, then we can have a productive discussion. That said, I'll make a couple of comments on the 9 beliefs that you stated are common to all sects of hinduism. Hindus believe that a book is a god? OK, so according to #4, a person creates his own destiny by how he lives his life. What if a person decides he doesn't want to attain moksha and spiritual knowledge? If he never attains it, then he never gets to go to nirvana, right? But according to #5, "not a single soul will be eternally deprived of this destiny." So there's no hell in Hinduism? That's interesting. I never knew that. And to think, I was hoping "American Idol" would get me closer to the divas! So on the one hand, you can chose whatever path you want to to get to God, but on the other hand, you've got to have a guru to help you get there? If you are responsible to find your own path, why the need for someone else to guide you and try to influence you with what they have chosen as their path? For example, say I'm your guru. I will try to teach you that Christianity is the right way to go. But you have rejected that, and it doesn't even matter because whatever you decide to do is right for you anyway. Why, then, even have a guru who might tell you things that you don't think are right? Except when it comes to unborn children. All life means all life, right? So, since plants are alive, I guess that means you would never pull a dandelion out of your flower garden, even though it's only an ugly weed. And I'll bet you feel remorse every minute for all the millions of germs you massacre every day simply by breathing. So you must not believe that Christianity is a genuine path to God. Since Christianity teaches that Jesus is the only way, it would be hypocritical of you to believe that is a genuine path to God. You can't believe in multiple ways to God, while at the same time saying that a religion that says there is only one way to God is a genuine religion. |
