ArchivedWhy Should Gays not be Allowed to MarryOnly in the State of Massachusetts. Married gay couples do not have Federal benefits as a result of the action of one state. 36 states have passed laws that limit marriage to a man and a woman. The battle is not over. As to the Bill of Rights, marriage is not a right it is a legal contract governed by the individual states. As to the Bill of Rights: Neither Congress nor the courts can stop Christians from opposing gay unions since such opposition is the free exercise of our religious belief. BTW, the voters of Massachusetts will be given the opportunity in 2006 of amending their State Constitution to prohibit gay marriages. So like I say the battle is not over. |
