Christian/Muslim ThreadsThe Bible and the QuranTofto, you said: Firstly, I just copied from a copy of Allama Yusuf Ali who has left the word "Allah" as "Allah" in his translation. Secondly, according to a non-Muslim Egyptian, I don't exactly remember his profession, each letter of the word "Allah" relieves one of depression and gives one peace of mind. Before reading that article, I used the word "God" more often, but now I try to use "Allah" more often. Ofcourse, "Say: "Call upon Allah or call upon Rahman: by whatever name ye call upon Him (it is well): for to Him belong the Most Beautiful Names. Neither speak thy Prayer aloud nor speak it in a low tone but seek a middle course between." (17:110) Believer, Ass-salam-u-alai-kum! You said: As for the Holy Spirit mentioned in the Quran, the phrase is a title of Angel Gabriel who conveys Allah's message to the prophets. The Quran says: "Say the Holy Spirit has brought the revelation from thy Lord in truth in order to strengthen those who believe and as a guide and Glad Tidings to Muslims." (16:102) If you are referring to any other thing, please tell me.
The title of "Son of God" as mentioned in the bible applies to all those people who are righteous and who believe in Allah and who obey his commandments. It is not an exclusive title of Prophet Jesus(pbuh) nor does it apply literally to anyone. The word "Father" is again not meant literally. It refers to Allah alone, and He is, ofcourse, everyone's Father in the sense that it is mentioned in the Bible. Mat5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. Here, Jesus(pbuh) implies that Allah is also the "Father" of other people. Concerning the "children" of God, the Bible says: Mat5:43 Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. Mat5:44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; Mat5:45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust. Here, Jesus(pbuh) clearly says that to be the "children" of God, the people must follow his teachings. And anyone who obeys Allah is also the "son" or "daughter" of God. Mat5:48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect. Mat6:1 Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: other wise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven. Mat6:8 Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him. Mat6:9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. In the latter verse, Jesus(pbuh) says that Allah is his "Father" equally as He is the "Father" of other people who obey His commandments. Mat6:15 But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. Note that Jesus(pbuh) doesn't say that "I will not forgive your trespasses" but he says that "your Father will not forgive your trespasses" showing that Jesus(pbuh) is not God. Mat18:10 Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, That in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven. Here Jesus(pbuh) refers to Allah as "my Father". Mat23:9 And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven. Here, Jesus(pbuh) very clearly says that there is only One Father and that is in Heaven. Ofcourse he is referring to the One and Only Allah. But not also that he also referred to Allah as "my Father". If Allah is One and Only according to the Bible, and if Allah is equally the Allah of Jesus(pbuh) as the Allah of his disciples, how do you say that Jesus(pbuh) is God? John8:42 Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me. In this verse, Jesus(pbuh) clearly says that he did not "come" but that he was "sent". If Jesus(pbuh) is God (nauzubillah), why would he be "sent" and why would he not "come"? He could only have been "sent" as a Prophet.
Do you call my religion one of "misguidance" because it orders me to believe in Only One God and to serve Him Only, as does the Bible, or because it orders me that: "It is not righteousness that ye turn your faces toward East or West; but it is righteousness to believe in Allah and the Last Day and the Angels and the Book and the Messengers; to spend of your substance out of love for Him for your kin for orphans for the needy for the wayfarer for those who ask and for the ransom of slaves; to be steadfast in prayer and practice regular charity; to fulfil the contracts which ye have made; and to be firm and patient in pain (or suffering) and adversity and throughout all periods of panic. Such are the people of truth the Allah-fearing." (2:177) Jesus(pbuh) was a human being and he was a Prophet of Allah. You said that I speak out of "ignorance" whereas I spoke what the Bible that you follow says. And surely you don't believe that the Bible makes me ignorant? This has been quite clearly and correctly answered by Kaf.heh.yeh.3yn.sad. I would like you to explain what you mean to say by this verse. The sentence in bold is accepted by Islam. The word "believe" used does not mean to believe that he is God (nauzubillah) but to follow his teachings. I would like you to point out your point here. "They say: "Become Jews or Christians if ye would be guided (to salvation)." Say thou: "Nay! (I would rather) the religion of Abraham the true and he joined not gods with Allah." (2:135) Take care |
