What I'm getting at is that God has to hear the prayers of sinners, or no-one could "knock" to have "the door opened".
P'raps the verse is saying we shouldn't expect much from God if we keep on sinning with aplomb. He must be able to hear us pray, it's just whether we deserve to have our prayers answered.

That verse has nothing to do with purgatory, Jesus' blood has purged us from all sin regardless of what people believe and i am able to counter any question on purgatory and prove it to be false.{Actually it has already been done with}
Look at the context of that verse, key words"But he that knew not, and
did commit things worthy of stripes"
What i am implying is, how can one be accountable for such if one has never heard the precious message and saving grace of Jesus. Did commit things and did not commit things are completel separate.
Examine the beatitudes of Jesus:
- Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.
- Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.
- Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
- And he lifted up his eyes on his disciples, and said, Blessed be ye poor: for yours is the kingdom of God.
Take a look at the millions of starving and indigent all over the world such as ethiopia, who have never heard the gospel and are hungered adn mouring because of that which is not given to them, God who is righteous will not condemn those who are brought into this world with sorrow, grief, famine and have nothing to lose, understand this my friend?
God Bless!
