Science, Creation & EvolutionFinding God in His wordI am not sure what you mean here. If you are asking "did we know what to look for and recognize it before hand", then, 'sorta'..the three wise men recognized the signs of the messiah and came to look for Him. So they must have recognized the signs of the prophecy. However, let me explain that prophecy is never clear...read Psalm 22 that was written by David approx 1,000 years before Christ, and 750yrs before the Roman empire formed and designed Crucifixion. In this prophecy, we know that David had no idea how prophetic he was being. We are told by scripture that prophets rarely knew or understood their own prophesy. Let us look at three minor prophets in the OT that prophecied where the Messiah came from .... 1. Nazareth (in Galilae)- Isaiah 2. Out of Egypt- Moses 3. Born in Bethlehem- Micah (for a complete NT view of this read Matthew 2, who puts the OT verses together for us to to know that Matthew was attributing Jesus as the fulfillment of these prophecies...fyi, when you see all caps in the text, that is a point where Matthew is quoting the OT) Looking at these three prophecies, there is no way to have 'foreknowledge' of how they would all play out to be true. Its only after Harod ordered the death of the kids, Mary and Joe fled with Jesus to Egypt, they took him to Bethlehem for a census (well documented occurence), but they were living in Nazereth of the Galilae. So, when we look back at scripture, we see its uncanny accuracy, but we have no to really understand most of it, accept in hindsight. This is given to us, so "that we may believe". The signs are there for us to look at. The divine nature of scripture is undeniable. We are without excuse before the Father. It is only what is in our hearts that we dont' want to rid ourselves of, due to selfish desires, that causes us to reject what God has laid out for us to see in His word. |
