ArchivedQuestion in judgesIt's a difficult one. Remember Jephthah made that vow himself; it wasn't something God asked him to do nor told him he had to enforce on his return. Maybe God did try to tell him it wasn't required but he had some kind of super-spiritual mindset which misunderstood and was trying to impress God with his zeal. The Bible doesn't say. Jephthah had a sad childhood himself which may well have twisted his views on families, although he genuinely grieved when his daughter met him. |
