ArchivedThe NT Canon - TraditionMost of what I know about the RCC I have learned online since January of this year. I have spend hours searching the net for reliable information. In many cases the only way I get reliable information is to post something from a site that is either anti-Catholic or from some Catholic fringe group that does not adhere to the official church position and then a member of the RCC posts a link to the right source. That is how I found the catechism. It would be edifying to be able to read for oneself the real article instead of a summary from a person dead set on proving his/her point. It can be an eye opener when you read the Orthodox version of the first Council of Nicea versus the RCC version since they differ in many aspects and the Coptic version is not the same as the other two. Catholics stand on their tradition and the Orthodox churches stand on there's and they seldom agree on major points of history. What is confussing is you have the Greek Catholic Church, the Greek Orthodox Church, the Coptic Orthodox and Coptic Catholic, etc. Although they all have similar histories until 325 A.D. the differences start from there and get more diverse with each church council where one group is excommunicated or just leaves the fold based on doctrinal differences. Based simply on titles Constantine was the first Pontifix Maximus and he or his successor passed that title to the Bishop of Damascus or Antioch and it was not until 607 A.D. that Boniface III through political influence was given that designation by the Emperor of the time, which even the Catholic Encyclopedia agrees with. A little truth in advertising would be appreciated at times from Catholics who do nothing but parrot the RCC hard line. |
