Christian/Muslim ThreadsWhy wont Muhammed come back at Judgement? So your main argument is that the analogy of the simultaneous square and circle does not apply to the simultaneous man and God: Whether human characteristics were imposed upon the divine, or divine were imposed upon the human, I want you to take as long as you need to show how something can be both divine and human, simultaneously. Don't just say that there is no contradiction because God wills the simultaneous existence: Because that's like saying that God wills the "square-circle". Anyone who uses the term "square-circle" doesn't really know what they mean. So tell me where you disagree with me: One of God's attributes is that He is not dependent on any of His creations, including space and time. To say that God can CHOOSE to be dependent on them, and hence willingly lose His divinity, is to say that God can CHOOSE to destroy Himself, if He so Willed. It is impossible that God could destroy Himself because this requires God to give up one of His divine attributes. Essentially, you're saying that it's ok if God gives up a divine attribute, as long as He wants to, so then you must think that it's also possible that God could self-destruct, which in my opinion is a non-coherent question. It is the "square-circle". Ok and that's exactly like saying he voluntarily chooses to give up some of His divine attributes for a while. That's like saying he voluntarily chooses to not exist, but then exists after a while. Because if you believe God could give up one of His divine attributes, then which of His divine attributes do you say He CAN'T give up? Then you get yourself into the predicament of essential and non-essential divine attributes and question which attributes are in fact divine. I say that all the divine attributes are perpetually essential and non-removable, unless you want to ask for the "square circle" once more. Well of course that's what Christian theology asserts, but I remind you that just because you can assert something in a sentence by combining words doesn't automatically include it in the realm of the possible and coherent. Christian theology can also assert that the "square circle" is possible, but wouldn't be able to write a paragraph on what exactly that would mean. So for now, I'd like to see a list of which divine attributes God can choose NOT to adhere to, and a reason explaining what distinguishes these attributes from the others, and why you believe that God CAN give up these attributes but not the others.
