ArchivedPicturesGetting a bit defensive? We have discussed sola scriptura and you know that these words are not in Scripture. Images have been covered Biblically. Prayers are to be offered to the Father in the name of the Son and in the Holy Spirit - this is Biblical. Jesus taught against the "traditions of men", which can be determined by their lack of Biblical precedents. Since the Bible teaches that our thoughts cease the dead cannot hear us; a witch called up Samuel and we don't know that the shade that appeared to Saul was not a demon. The formation of the Protestant canon can be found here: NT Canon, OT Part 1 OT Part 2. I have already linked to a discussion of the deutero-canonical books however, Deutero-canonical; a discussion of each book can be found by name such as Wisdom, Sirach, etc. Biblically speaking there were churches at Rome, Ephesus, Jerusalem, Antioch, and etc. These are individual congregations under the authority of a teach who is under the authority of Jesus Christ. The Greek word "ekklesia" is the only word translated "church" and means the body of believers or an assembly. In plain English the word "ekklesia" means the people not the building, a denomination, a religious philosophy, or a systematic theology; it means every person no matter what denomination they belong to that has received God's gift of grace through faith in Jesus Christ. If you take the time to check out the Greek in Matthew 16:18 "petra", which is a feminine noun, cannot refer to "petros", which is a masculine noun. The "petra" upon which Jesus built His church was faith in Him, as the context of Matthew 16:18 makes perfectly clear. Is there more than one Catholic rite? You brought up the Latin rite and the eastern rite? Why is there more than 1? Why did Constantine set up 5 Patriarchies? Why did the Byzantine churches split from the western church in 1054? The major difference between some Protestant denominations has to do with church government, which doctrines they emphasize, and many other criteria. The Anglican church started in England, the Lutheran church started in Germany, the Presbyterian church started in Scotland, the Methodist church was started by the Wesley’s and is called “Methodist” based on Wesley’s “method” of teaching. One reason you have so many Protestant denominations is persecution by the Roman Catholic Church. These denominations started in diverse sections of Europe before mass communication was available. No matter how many “churches” there are there is only one “ekklesia”, the Body of Christ and this Body is made up of members from all “churches” that live a righteous and obedient life in Him through the power of the Holy Spirit. As to “traditions” referred to by Paul and others, these are oral instructions that were subsequently written, and compiled into the Bible. Any “tradition” that cannot be found in God’s word is a “tradition” of man. This can be plainly seen in Jesus’ teaching on the “traditions of the Pharisees”. Purgatory, the immaculate conception, the assumption, Mary’s perpetual virginity, and many other RCC traditions contradict or void God’s truth. The RCC’s teaching on justification by works voids God’s truth. What you have shared in regards to the RCC and the Jews voids God’s truth. Israel was given to Abraham and his offspring as a “perpetual land”. The Jews will once again live in peace on the Promised Land, which runs from the River of Egypt to Damascus and from the Mediterranean Sea to the Jordan River; and Jesus Christ will rule sitting on the throne of David in Jerusalem. To deny this is to call God a liar and a promise breaker. |
