I am stating there is no evidence Biblical or historical that Peter was martyred in Rome other than a reference to Babylon in 1 Peter; which if you accept this then you have to accept the mystery Babylon of Revelation is Rome and the RCC is the whore who rides the beast in Revelation 17. Appealing to 2nd century and later inscriptions is not proof.
I will ask you one Question Aieno where do you think Peter Died, in Jerusalem? Where was his wife etc... buried why didnt they find there bodies? Because they are in Rome!
One aspect of both Catholicism and Orthodoxy that I find morbid is the emphasis on relics. Another Catholic on another board's favorite expression when Mary was discussed was "Show me the bones". What difference does it make where Peter's wife is buried? Does the RCC claim to have her bones? Peter could have been martyred in many places in the Roman Empire.
Revelation 14:8
8 And another angel, a second one, followed, saying, "Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great, she who has made all the nations drink of the wine of the passion of her immorality."
NAS
Revelation 16:19
19 And the great city was split into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell. And Babylon the great was remembered before God, to give her the cup of the wine of His fierce wrath. NAS
Revelation 17:5
5 and upon her forehead a name was written, a mystery, "BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND OF THE ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH." NAS
Revelation 17:8-10
8 "The beast that you saw was and is not, and is about to come up out of the abyss and to go to destruction. And those who dwell on the earth will wonder, whose name has not been written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they see the beast, that he was and is not and will come. 9 "Here is the mind which has wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains on which the woman sits, 10 and they are seven kings; five have fallen, one is, the other has not yet come; and when he comes, he must remain a little while. NAS
Revelation 18:2
2 And he cried out with a mighty voice, saying, "Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great! And she has become a dwelling place of demons and a prison of every unclean spirit, and a prison of every unclean and hateful bird. NAS
Revelation 18:21
21 And a strong angel took up a stone like a great millstone and threw it into the sea, saying, "Thus will Babylon, the great city, be thrown down with violence, and will not be found any longer. NAS
Revelation 11:8
8 And their dead bodies will lie in the street of the great city which mystically is called Sodom and Egypt, where also their Lord was crucified. NAS
You have two cities here not just one. The beast (city) that is ridden by the whore is a city of 7 hills. Jerusalem is not built on 7 hills.
Jerusalem has never been the capitol or site of any great political power.
If you are going to be consistent Babylon in 1 Peter has to be the Babylon of Revelation. If you maintain the Babylon of Revelation is Jerusalem then so is the Babylon of 1 Peter. If I use your reasoning Peter is buried in Jerusalem not Rome.
If I follow my reasoning then I must concede that Peter was actually in Rome at the time he wrote 1 Peter. So, which reasoning shall we follow; yours or mine?
