To my knowlege, California courts have not made any such rulings. I believe you're thinking of massachusettes. San Francisco mayor has been marrying as an act of civil disobedience, but that is not the same thing at all.

He broke the law, and now he faces consequences.
So did the mayor of Frisco, and this is called anarchy. And I know the Massachusettes Supreme Court is the one who declared the marriage laws unconstitutional. My Mayflower ancestors are spinning in their graves at the thought of what they sacrificed so a court could over turn a law of the people.
