ArchivedA Complaint to Allah ...Murdoch.. I fully expect to disagree with the people who write to this discussion forum. I am a Christian and those that write here to discuss with me, are Muslims. We are extremely different in how we perceive a relationship with God is gained. I have been on this forum long enough now to know that, I can deal with how I disagree in two ways. I can attack the person, and find they attack me in return or I can attack the doctrine they are espousing. I can do the latter in two ways. I can first find out why they believe the way they do, so I reply, not from my own perspective, but from within the perspective of the other person or I can just come out bluntly and state what I believe and close discussion. By definition, a debate enables me to say my point and often with no real regard to anothers. A discussion means I discuss my point of view with another. In this forum, bushmaster and I want to discuss with the Muslims who write here, as if we were in the same room with them, and having a talk about aspects of our faith. Yes, in discussing, we will stand up for what we believe, but we won't close discussion by either attacking the person, or debating our viewpoint. I hope that explains our position a little clearer. As I said in my post, to respect does not mean to disagree. Let's look at the context of the verse you quoted .... John 8:43.. " Note here, Jesus was talking to a bunch of Pharisees and leaders who are disputing with Jesus over the identity of His Father and the words that He is speaking. the context of your words are in the middle of a conversation Jesus is having with them. He doesn't just blurt out to them that "you are liars just like you are children of the devil", The entire chapter builds up to this point. Jesus states something, they respond. For each negative response Jesus explains to them why they are not understanding His words and the verses you quoted are part of this. You see, in a discussion, you can rebuke false teaching and identify it's source.. but it always has a purpose that is beyond just rebuking for the sake of rebuking. Jesus is leading this discussion .. he uses the Jewish teachings to show how he fulfils the Old Testament and it is for this reason they try to kill him. They don't attempt to stone him because he called them names.. It was not because He called them the children of the devil, but because He called Himself God. We are not saying don't state all the words of Jesus.. yes, disagree with each other, but in so doing respect that the person you are talking to is according to the bible, someone created in the image of God and stained by the same sin that you were and which Jesus died for. It is in the grace of God I stand and it is in that grace alone I share my faith with others. |
