Science, Creation & EvolutionAge of the EarthQuote from http://www.seds.org/messier/more/mw.html I read somewhere in this thread the claim that we don't know for sure if stars are actually more then 7000 lightyears away. It is also on that page of Hovind. That claim is ridiculous. 1: Only our own galaxy contains 1.750.000.000.000 times the mass of our sun. Divided over at least 200.000.000.000 stars. 2: There is a vast amount of star systems like ours. 1 and 2 combined give an extremely interesting effect. All that mass on such a "tiny" space would cause the universe to collapse in a very small amount of time, due to gravitational forces (yes, the same gravitational forces that creationists so conviently forget about so often) And we know for sure that the Universe isn't collapsing with great speeds at the moment, since it is still expanding. Since the combination of 1 and 2 is not possible it is therefore not possible that all the stars are no further away then 7000 lightyears. Ergo: most of the stars in the Universe are further away then 7000 lightyears and since we can see their light, they were there more then 7000 years ago. So the Earth must be older then 7000 years as well, since you say that it was created by God before he created the stars. |
