ArchivedRelationship between a Holy God and sinnersLady Fatima, you are so correct in this comment, that sin does not decrease the majesty of God and yes sin does harm the individual. All the great prophets who have had any sort of "face to face" or very close association with God have been profoundly and forever changed by the encounter with the holiness of God. Adam knew his sin and his nakedness and hid from God, David cried out asking God to renew and restore Him, Isaiah cried out that He was a man of unclean lips. Joshua had all his "dirty" clothes removed and new robes put on. You cannot stand in the presence of Almighty God as a human in your current state. YOU personally would never stand it. Notice in all these cases, it was not man who affected the inward change. Each of the prophets cried out to God of their need for salvation and change. He didn't just say "I forgive you".. GOD himself worked the change in their lives and provided for their need. In Adams case it was the death of an animal and a covering to cover his shame. In David's case, He came to David and through the events surrounding the death of David's son with Bethsheba, He brought David to repentence. With Isaiah he purged his lips and his mouth with fire and with Joshua he touched his lips and gave him new clothes. All symbolic, as the New Testament book of Hebrews says it was these actions of God and the prophets faith which saved them. It wasn't enough to just be aware of sin in their lives, they had to trust God for His answer to their sin. The bible says in Hebrews 11, they were waiting for what we as believers know is true.. for the coming Messiah. Is sin harmless to God? the answer to that is yes and no! God is absolute and total holiness. . God cannot tolerate sin, and God cannot hates sin. Sin cannot be in the presence of the Almighty God. Hell is there to take care of sin. It was never created for humans, but hell is eternal separation from the Living God. Why is there? Because sin and God cannot co-exist. Let none of us underestimate what the result of our sin is to us as individuals and in the presence of the holy God.. how it affects Him in His total holiness. more later, but would appreciate your response Lady Fatima. peace to you |
