A slap in the face of Christ?
I can't quite understand why a country that is not secular in nature, such as Italy would allow such a bold stroke. I believe for that particular country, it is not the right move, at least for the time being. I grew up in a second generation Roman Catholic family.
My Grandma is rolling over in her grave, I'm sure.
I believe in the representation of all religious symbols, or none at all within our public school structure, since I believe in the seperation of Church and state. I know many here may not agree with me, but IMHO, that is the best way to eliminate the argument period.
However, Italy does have laws and legislation rooted deeply into Catholocism and Christianity in general, and I see this as an attempt by one very twisted man to deride the values that many people hold dear. If he had asked to have his religious symbols displayed in the same manner as the Cross, maybe I wouldn't see it as so much disrespect thrown into the face of what, for the most part, is a tolerant society.
