ArchivedSALVATIONNo matter if you're Christian or Muslim, you are still a sinner. Muslims believe you can still make it to heaven despite the fact you are a sinner, so why can't Christians? The only difference is, we do not rely on OUR righteousness, but that of Jesus. We are not saved BY good works, we are saved UNTO good works. Our good works cannot bring us salvation because it is tainted by sin and is filthy rags toward God (Isa 64:6). And yes, all you have to do is accept God's sacrifice for your sins and follow Jesus and you will be saved. You will still be a sinner, but your sins are covered by the Blood of Christ. That does not mean you sin on purpose. It's a matter of the heart. God knows if you sin on purpose and say, "atleast I'm covered by Jesus' blood." That's not being saved, because you have to remember that Jesus said you have to be "Born Again" which is genuine repentance. Think of a hobby you like to do. No matter how much you like that hobby, you are not perfect at it, but you still try hard to do good or even perfect it. I like playing basketball, and I know I will miss shots because I'm human. But the fact that I miss shots does not mean that I'm going to delibrately miss all my shots on purpose. It's the samething with being Born Again. You will still sin, but not delibrately and there will be genuine repentance. You have to strive for perfection. Jesus said "Be perfect as your heavenly Father is perfect." But only God can judge ones heart. If you look at some of the laws in the OT, you can tell that it was fulfilled by Christ and is not applied to today. The ceremonial laws were only for Isreal, and the sacrificial laws foreshadowed the final sacrifice (Jesus). The Bible says there is no forgiveness of sin unless there is the shedding of blood(Heb 9:22). That's how it was by the law, and that's how it is with the New Covenant through Jesus. All the animals that were sacrificed in the OT for forgiveness of sins symbolized the future death of Jesus. Why do you think we do not slay animals for sacrifice anymore? Because Jesus died, that's why. He was the final sacrifice. We are to now follow the two great commandments which Jesus stated: Love God with all your heart, mind and soul and Love your neighbor as you love yourself. Jesus said on these two commandments rests the law of the prophets, or OT(Matthew 22:37, Mark 12:30, Luke 10:27). But the ceremonial laws and such, you do not have to follow them for salvation. When Jesus died, the veil of the temple was destroyed, sybolizing the end of ceremonial and sacrificial laws (Matt 27:51, Mark 15:38, Luke 23:45). God gave the law in the first place to show what His standards were and to show that we cannot measure up to those standards. The law glorifies God and shows how holy and perfect He is. The law was also to establish the promise of the Messiah(Galatians 3:19,24). The law was fulfilled through Jesus Christ. Jesus gave us two commandments which the whole law stood for. You should be glad we do not have to be stoned to death for lighting a fire on the sabbath. In the OT, if you touched a dead person you were unclean. But in the NT, Jesus touches dead people and brings them back alive. It's so obvious that the ceremonial laws of the OT do not apply to today, and Jesus confirmed it through His actions and His words. People in the OT were saved through the promise of the Messiah. I explain this in the link I gave you on my first post in this topic. All the sacrifices they did by killing certain animals, all symbolized the sacrifice of the Messiah Jesus. The OT saints looked forward toward the Messiah, the people during Jesus' day saw the Messiah, and we today look back at the Messiah. No matter what way you take it, people do not enter heaven unless Jesus eventually dies. God knew His plan to sacrifice Jesus from the beginning. |
