ArchivedHow could you spread so much hate about gays? It is fairly easy to pull verses from the Bible and use them as proof the Bible contradicts itself. However, when you study the Bible it is just as easy to see the Bible does not contradict itself. Now try to describe God to a human being without using terms a human being can comprehend. You can understand love, jealousy, anger, hate, etc. God is angry at our sin but loves us; God labels acts that miss His mark of perfection as sin (an English word that at its essence means missing the mark of perfection). As to translations; it is impossible to translate any document word for word from one language to another. The Greek has three words we translate love -- eros is erotic or sexual love; phileo is brotherly love; agapao is a love that transcends the other two and does not take personal offenses into account in our relationships. I saw an interview with a Bible translator who had to come up with a way to translate John 3:16 into the language of a culture who does not have the western concept of emotional, brotherly, or erotic love. In plain English this culture does not understand what love is. After living in this culture for 5 years the translator eventually translated: as "God so leaned on a tree" since this was the only way to convey the Biblical concept of love in that culture. Language is a way to communicate concepts. The Bible communicates the concept that God loves people, hates our sin, and pardons those who accept His free gift of Jesus Christ who covers or suffered the punishment of a righteous God for our missing His mark of perfection. God does not hate gay people He hates any sexual union outside a monogamous lifetime union between one man and one woman. |
