ArchivedWhy do you oppose gay marriage?I am, just not on this board where my resposibilities are to this forum. If you check the balance of this message board heterosexual sins are also discussed. I answer to a higher authority than the U.S. Government. I will obey our laws and take advantage of my rights as a citizen of this country. One of those rights is freedom of speech and the right to oppose legislation I find in error. What you are imposing on me is a minority group doing an endrun around the consitution and a government of the people, by the people and for the people. If it was not for a liberal court system that our Congress is afraid to control (which is the Consitutional right and duty) this conversation would be mute. My right to my beliefs is not limited by your rights. My beliefs cannot be negated by legislation. You have the right to lobby for your beliefs but you want to limit my right to lobby for mine. BTW, some atheists also oppose gay unions and homosexuality. This is not a Christian vs. gay subject. If I had free reign where would I stop? I don't understand this question. I stand for equal opportunity under the law. I support the right of gay men and lesbian women to live free of physical harm, economic discrimination, and all the goals I fought for as a member of the gay liberation front. I draw the line are redefining marriage (civil or religious), no fault divorce, dead beat dads, spousal abuse (wife beaters should get mandatory prison sentences not restraining orders). I stand for respecting all people regardless of their race, religion, gender, econimic status, or sexual orientation. |
