ArchivedPLEASE THINK!!!!!!Abdullah, another question for you...
and then you made a presumption based on that quote now, please can I ask you to read the entire chapter 2 and see how this verse fits into the entire chapter, that it is a progression of thought and see how it ends... Therefore, let all Israel be assured of this, God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ. As is true telling of the Gospel, Peter took what the people already knew and believed.. that Jesus was was a man credited by God, and who did signs miracles and wonders and signs amongst them. He then says "this man was handed over to you by God's set purpose and foreknowledge, with the help of wicked men, put Him to death by nailing him to the cross. But God raised Him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to hold onto him." He goes on to contrast the death of David and the death of Christ and the prophetic nature or David's words, and then Peter suddenly changes tact... He takes all this foreknowledge of the Jews and then adds to it... 1. God has raised this Jesus from the dead and we are eyewitnesses of that. ) Don't anyone think this is hearsay.. we saw it with out own eyes and we are telling you this ourselves, is really what Peter is saying.) 2. He is now exalted at the right hand of God and His promise of the Holy Spirit accounted for the miracles and signs the Jews were seeing in the disciples 3. This same Jesus who was crucified, is both Lord and Christ. What was the result of this? If Peter thought that Jesus was only a man, would he have told the people that this is what they needed to do? Vs 38 Repent and be baptised, everyone of you, in the Name of Jesus Christ, for the forgiveness of sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off, for all who are far off and whom the Lord our God will call". and notice the response of this preaching... immediately about 3000 of them became believers .. and in the last part of the chapter it says that the Lord added daily to their number. Did Peter truly believe that Jesus was only a man? Did He preach this sermon and demand this repentance based on leading the Jews who believed very strongly in ONE God to worship just a man? As Paul hadn't even been converted yet, whose theology was Peter following? How could Peter have been corrupted by Paul, when Paul wasn't even mentioned until Chapter 9 of Acts? |
