ArchivedWhy do you oppose gay marriage? In which two people in love formalize the permanency of their relationship. One could argue that the "love" bit is a modern addition, but to me it's more important than the one-male-one-female part. But then, I'm psychologically androgynous, so my perspective is rather unusual... Why should my physical sex affect who I am permitted to marry, when it seems so irrelevant to me? Regardless, if homosexual couples meet every criteria for marriage except for "one-man-one-woman," I don't see why the tradiition can't be extended to us... as it was extended to interracial couples, for example. You might not think that uniformity of race is a defining characteristic of marriage, but some people certainly used to. Mythology, as far as I'm concerned. "We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America." I don't see anything about God in that. There's a bit on religion later on, though: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof." Again, this does not say "based on God and His laws" to me. Nowhere close. Your God is a vengeful God... and I would not worship him if I did believe in him, because of that. Feel free to shake the dust off, at this point. Don't worry; me being damned is more of a problem for you than it is for me. |
