this is a situation where in order to substatiate whats written in the book a quote has been included to make you believe that the book was predicted to come. In actual fact Jesus (pbuh) may never have said this, but you are using a quote from the book thats credibility is in debate to show that the same book is as was promised, which is of course a paradoxical situation.... you are merely emotionally devoted to the religion that you believed was the way to God, many christians will never revert because of this reason, they get their emotional devotion and what is right or the truth confused.
Naaji, may I ask you to look at it in a different way please...
Muslims say that "nowhere does Jesus actually say that we should worship Him"
But you have read that as " NO where"!! and you are right, He "no where" says it if you take those those words literally. But, he does say it very loudly in the fact he accepts worship in a way only God Himself would.. and in those places the "NO where" can be read as "now here" Jesus makes His claim to be God very clear.
Now the same thing is true of my faith. You say it's an emotional attachment.. and that I will agree with, but it's also a spiritual, physical and intellectual attachment, because it affects every part of my life. Now, if it was just an emotional attachment, do you think multitudes of Christians since the resurrection and ascension of Jesus would willingly die for their faith in such horrible ways?
Emotions change with circumstances, so to rely on any religion based on emotions alone, is like marrying only because you love someone. You don't base a future life with someone in marriage on emotions alone (you are silly if you do), regardless of what cultural norm you follow when it comes to choosing a marriage partner ( or having one chosen for you) , many practicalities are also looked at for the ideal choice. If you are facing death and the only thing you have to cling to are your emotions, as an assurance of your faith I know what most people would likely do.
Now, if I am going to make a spiritual decision, which is way more important eternally than who I am going to marry in this life, don't you think I'd spend more time searching out the truth than just following any faith emotionally?
Now having said that, Naaji, please could you answer my question if you can..
Now, the Qur'an was collected into a fixed form after Muhammad's death, as were the Gospel narratives after Jesus' ascension. If Muhammad's companions are said to have remembered what he told or narrated to them in order that the Qur'an could be written down, then it's every bit as possible and credible to believe that Jesus' disciples remembered what Jesus said to them and wrote down His very words.
