I may be wrong, but I think the biggest difference between being a follower of Jesus, and other religions (including many strands of so called Christianity), is that Jesus shows that everyone is a sinner. A rapist is a sinner yes, but so are the people who are witnesses in the court bringing the accusation.
If there is one thing Jesus does, which no other religious leader has done or ever will do, is put the focus in the right place.. no matter who I am, or what I have done or not done, it makes no difference, I am a sinner in my attitudes as much as in my behaviour. I know I fail the Biblical guidelines for a life that is pleasing to God.. but all that does in realising and believing that, is leads me back to HIM alone, and total dependence on HIM for my salvation.
The biggest difference with the biblical rules and regulations, is not that they are just guidelines and commandments for a godly life, but they are there to show that without faith, it's impossible to please God. I cannot, nor will I ever meet the demands of the law and the commandments, no matter how much I try.
Even more amazing than this, and it's the central theme of the Bible, both in the old and in the new testament .. He lavishes His love on me by sending His Son to die for me, not when I am submitted and obeying HIM, but whilst I am still sinning and still without any hope of stopping it.
You can try any power you like.. you can follow any god or goddess, religion or humanistic teaching you like.. but you will never find a power like the power of the love of God. It's beyond understanding, it's beyond description, it's beyond anything else you might experience. All else is counterfeit and not real, it's but a shadow of what it means to know God in your everyday experience.
