The Pagan Heritage of Islam

Postby Loki » Mon Sep 20, 2004 04:26 pm

As Muhammad developed Islam he borrowed from the other regional religions present in the Mideast. These religions include Judaism, Christianity, Sabeanism, Zoroastrianism, and forms of paganism. Judaism is the largest contributor to Islam, followed by Christianity, then followed by the various pagan religions, and Muhammad’s mind. These pagan borrowings constitute significant facets of Islam and this article details some of these pagan contributions.

Pagan Rituals
Islam counterargument: "Easter and other celebrations are based on paganism why blame us for the same"
The Muslim by using this argument is actually admitting that the Qur'an was not "sent down" but fabricated from pagan sources. This means he has become an unbeliever (Surah 25:4-6). And it is a false analogy to parallel the pagan origins of the rites commanded in the Qur'an with the present day holidays nowhere commanded in the Bible. What some modern day Christians do on Dec. 25th has no logical bearing on what the Qur'an commands Muslims to do (eg. the Pilgrimage, the Fast, etc.) It is irrelevant that some Christians choose to celebrate the birth of Christ. Since the Bible nowhere commands it, it is a matter of personal freedom. But Muslims are commanded in the Qur'an to believe and practice many things which came from the paganism of that day.

Allah
- Islam's origins have been traced back by scholars to the ancient fertility religion of the worship of the moon god one of the 360 dieties worshipped) which was always the dominant religion of Arabia. The moon god was worshipped by praying toward Mecca several times a day, making an annual pilgrimage to the Kabah which was a temple of the moon god, running around the Kabah seven times, caressing an idol of a black stone set in the wall of the Kabah, running between two hills, making animal sacrifices, gathering on Fridays for prayers, giving alms to the poor, etc.. These were pagan rites practiced by the Arabs long before Muhammad was born.
- The word allah was not used as the name for the abrahamic god until after Muhammed
- Every Islamic scholar acknowledges that Muhammed at first permitted the worship of the 3 daughters of allah (the Satanic Verses)... and later removed the verses.. it is an undeniable fact in the history of Islam.. it is mentioned in Hadith

Stone deity in the hadith:
- A stone ran away with Moses his cloths whilst bathing [Bukhari, Volume 1, Book 5, Number 277]
- Use a odd number of stones to clean private parts [Bukhari, Volume 1, Book 4, Number 162]
- A stone paid Muhammed salutations [Muslim, Book 030, Number 5654]
- A stone is squeeling on hiding Jews [Muslim, Book 041, Number 6981]
(these are only a few of many)

The Kaba
- Pre-Islamic history tells us that many Arabian tribes were stone worshippers. The Old Testament even talks about Mideast pagan groups that worshipped stones. Muhammad incorporated the Kaba's paganistic roots into Islam to give the Muslims a sense of identity, legitimacy, and uniqueness. He also wanted to ease the Arab's strain of moving from paganism to Islam, by continuing the practices of their fathers.
- It is thought that the Kaba was originally set up for astral worship. Golden suns and moons are repeatedly mentioned as the votive gifts. Some pagans regarded the Kaba as a temple devoted to the sun, moon, and 5 planets.
- The black stone played a prominent role in pagan worship. The pagans offered animal sacrifices there. But the idol of the black stone replaced the alter; on the black stone they smeared the blood of the sacrificed animals.
- Only Muhammad claimed that it was a place built by Abraham. In looking in the O.T., we find no mention of Abraham traveling to Mecca to build a house of worship.

Kaba talked about in the bible?
- Muslims hope that Gen 35:4, 14, 15 refer to the Kaba. Since "Beth-El" = House of God, and that the Jewish temple wasn't built until much later. But as the Bible shows, Bethel is a town, in Palestine - Genesis chapter 12. Also, Jacob built an altar, not a temple to God. Abraham also built an altar to the Lord in Gen 12:7.
- Muslims claim that David mentions the Kaba in Psalm 84:6. If 'Baca' was a location, it was not known where it existed in the Bible. But a more correct interpretation, taken in context of the whole Psalm, is that since 'baca' means weeping, it means 'valley of tears'. David could be saying that he longs for the presence of God, and that even through difficult times (baca) God will be with him, and will turn his tears to joy.
- Muslims also think that Isaiah 60:7 "All the flocks of Kedar" refers to Arabian people worshipping at the Kaba. Reading thru Isa 60:7, it shows that Kedar's flocks are going to be sacrificed on the alter. Are Muslims saying that Arabs were going to be human sacrifices?
- Some Muslims think that since the New Jerusalem in the book of Revelation is cubic, it also resembles the Kaba and thus is a prophecy of the Kaba! But the Kaba is not a perfect cube, not even close. The structure is 50 ft high, with a sloping roof, the shorter walls are 35 feet long, and the facade is 40 ft. long.

What monoteistic religion is a newer version of it's old pagan one? Islam!

"And beware, lest you lift up your eyes to heaven and see the sun and the moon and the stars, all the host of heaven, and be drawn away and worship them and serve them, those which the Lord your God has allotted to all the peoples under the whole heaven." Deut 4:19

Dear Loki, Excellent post - very informative. I would like to add some comments about the origins of Islam. According to what I've heard not researched; Mohammad while fasting in a cave claimed that the angel Gabriel appeared to him and told him that God made him a prophet and inspired him to write the Qu'ran. It is very interesting to me that Mormonism was started in a similar way, that is; Joseph Smith, the founding prophet while fasting and praying had a visit from the angel Morani which told him he was a prophet and inspired him to write the book of Mormon. Notice that both men, Muhammad and Joseph Smith, claimed to have had angelic visitations and as a result a set of so-called inspired writings, the Koran and book of Mormon were produced. Notice also both religions permit polygamy; both have incorporated aspects of the Bible; both are extemely legalistic to follow; and both writings were changed and edited over time - hardly a case of Divine inspiration.

Meanwhile, Paul makes the following statement in Galations 1:8 : "But though we, or AN ANGEL FROM HEAVEN, preach any other gospel...let them be accursed." Based on that statement I personally believe it is possible that Muhammad and Joseph Smith had authentic angelic visitations and furthermore most likely from the same angel of deceit.
Therefore, I conclude both writings are based on doctrines of devils according to 1Timothy chapter 4.

Another point about Muhammad and others who claimed to be prophets is this:

All the Old Testament prophets were tested and tried before they were accepted as true prophets of God. Anyone who claimed to be a prophet were tested based on their short-term prophecies coming to pass. And anyone who claimed to be a prophet and it was found otherwise they were immediately put to death. No one unless they wanted to die would dare call themselves a prophet. In the case of Muhammad, he was accountable to no one and it is the same for other false prophets.

Thank you for doing your part in exposing the truth.
"Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost" - Peter (Acts 2:38)

"And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name they shall cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues" - Jesus (Mark 16:17)

"And when they had brought them, they set them before the council: and the high priest asked them, Saying, Did not we straitly command you that ye should not teach in this name?...Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men." (Acts 5:27-29)

Oneness Apostolic - born again according to John 3:3-8, Acts 2:4, Acts 2:38

Quran is revelation of Allah for sure.
Sorry christian brothers you have a funny logic.

Quran is original and not corrupted
It is memorized by millions of people .
Noone can claim 'bibles' are original .

If you really believe your claim then think about this :

Satan is preserving its work much better than it's Creator.

Before reading each surah we muslims taught to say
EUZUBILLHIMINASSAYTANIRRACIM
Means : I seek refuge from cursed satan
--Satan is teaching this ???????

After that think about what you believe in

Sacrificing sinnless for the sins of others
IS THAT NOT CUSTOM OF SATANISM ??????

CAN THIS BE JUSTICE OF GOD ALLMIGHTY.
IF THIS IS JUSTICE , WHY DONT WE MAKE THE SAME THING ?????

Think again and open your eyes

My logic? you read a line in a book, and conclude from your subjective point of view that it is a book from God, merely because it surely sounds good too you.

Quran is original and not corrupted
It is memorized by millions of people .
Noone can claim 'bibles' are original .

can you proof me that the quran is original? you still have the leaves in wich muhammed his narrators wrote upon? or is the only ancient thing you have a copy of a copy wich you can find in the store? with no ancient book dating from the times of muhammed to compare it's authencithy with?

If you really believe your claim then think about this :

Satan is preserving its work much better than it's Creator.

your the one saying the quran is the best preserved peace of work on the planet.

Your own angel choked Muhammed, Muhammed had symptons of possesion, had sex with a child who hadn't reached puberty jet, approved the brutally killing of apostates and people who refused to convert, killed people of the book, conquered lands and longed for worldy pleasures.... don't you ask me wich sounds satanic and wich doesn't... not any line in your book will change that

Sacrificing sinnless for the sins of others

Trinity is satans false doctrin

"DO NOT CLING TO ME, FOR I HAVE NOT YET ASCENDED TO MY FATHER, BUT GO TO MY BRETHREN AND SAY TO THEM, I AM ASCENDING TO MY FATHER AND YOUR FATHER, AND TO MY GOD AND YOUR GOD."
JOHN 20:17
THE TRINITY-SATAN'S FALSE DOCTRINE
JESUS CHRIST IS NOT GOD!

Would it surprise you to know that one of the most prominent doctrines in Christianity today has no basis in scripture? The doctrine of the "Holy Trinity" considered by many to be essential to one's very salvation, is not found in Christianity until at least three hundred years after the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Even more shocking is the fact that the concept of a triune godhead likely comes from the traditions of paganism!

AN ANCIENT STATUE OF THE HINDU TRINITY
Keep in mind that there are many sincere believers in the trinity doctrine and not all are just mindless followers of a tradition. While there are numerous scriptures that show Jesus to be just who he said he was, the SON of God, there are a handful of New Testament scriptures that might, IF taken out of context, cause one to conclude that Jesus is himself God.
THE MAIN CAUSE OF THE CONFUSION
There seems to be a lack of attention paid to the things that the Bible says about Jesus in his pre-human existence. Scripture tells us that Jesus was the "Logos," or in English, the "Word," at the beginning of creation. It is the role that he possessed prior to his earthly ministry which causes many to falsely conclude that he is not only the Son of God, but indeed is God.
SCRIPTURE SHOWS JESUS WAS CREATED BY GOD
"THESE THINGS SAYS THE AMEN, THE FAITHFUL AND TRUE WITNESS, THE BEGINNING OF THE CREATION OF GOD."

REVELATION 3:14
We are taught in the Bible that the Heavenly Father is without beginning and without end. Jesus Christ in his own words claims to be God's first, or "chief" creation. According to the Apostle John, "God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten SON." (John 3:16) If Jesus was "begotten" some other being must have "beget" him. According to Webster's Dictionary, "Beget" means to be the "FATHER OR TO SIRE. To bring into being." This being the case, a higher power must have created Jesus.
In examining the account of creation as written in the book of Genesis, it is clear that the Heavenly Father employed a helper in the creation process. "Let US make man in our image, according to our likeness, let them have dominion over the the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth." (Genesis 1:26) It is our contention that Jesus Christ in his pre-human form was this very helper.
"THINGS WERE MADE THROUGH HIM"
The gospel of the Apostle John tells us that "All things were made THROUGH him, (Jesus) and without him nothing was made that was made." (John 1:3) The majority of translations use the word "through," which is wrongly translated in the original King James Bible as "all things were made by him." If all things were made through him, this indicates that he was carrying out orders that had been delegated by a higher authority. Jesus acted as Jehovah's agency and is the one who dealt directly with mankind in the Old Testament.
JESUS IS THE "ARM" OF JEHOVAH"
There are numerous scriptures that speak of Jehovah's Holy "arm." When one examines the context of these verses it becomes clear that this "arm" is Jesus Christ. In speaking of the coming redeemer, "therefore his own arm brought salvation FOR him." (Isaiah 59:16) "The Lord has made bare his Holy arm in the eyes of all nations; and all the ends of the earth shall see his salvation." (Isaiah 52:10) "Behold, the Lord God shall come with a strong hand, and his arm shall rule over them." (Isaiah 40:10) "And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?" (John 12:38) and (Isaiah 53:1) Jesus serves as the General of Jehovah. He is the one who carries out the will of his Father.
PROVERBS 8TH CHAPTER SPEAKS OF THE ROLE OF OF THE "LOGOS"
To further comprehend the role of the "Logos," turn your Bible to the book of Proverbs the 8th chapter verses 22-31." Verse 30 says, "I was beside him as a master craftsman; and I was daily his delight." Clearly we see here that Jesus was with the Father, but he was separate from the Heavenly Father.
"THE WORD WAS GOD"
JOHN 1:1
For centuries, a poor translation of John 1:1, as well as a misunderstanding of biblical usage for the word "god," has caused millions to wrongly believe in the trinity. In most Bibles, John 1:1 reads "In the beginning was the Word, and the word was with God, and the Word was God." This scripture is the cornerstone of Trinitarian creed.
HOW SHOULD JOHN 1:1 BE TRANSLATED?
The first argument in refuting this interpretation is an appeal to common sense. How could the Word be with God and be God at the same time? If the point here was to say that the Word was God, why bother saying that he was with him? Would not the passage more likely read (In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was in all things God?) The very word structure of this passage provides strong evidence for mistranslation.
In an effort to validate their own bias towards the trinity doctrine, it appears that the translators have ignored an obvious distinction between the Logos and the Heavenly Father in John 1:1. The Greek word that is used for god in the passage is theos. In the two uses of the word "god" there is a difference in its usage. In the first use "the Word was with God" the word is ho theos meaning THE God." In the second usage of this verse it is simply theos. Given this, the proper reading of John 1:1 should be "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with the God, and a god was the Word." Verse 2 goes on to say, "He was in the beginning with the (ho theos) God."
According to the Strongs Concordance, the Greek word theos, which is numbered 2316 in the Greek dictionary found towards the back of the publication, means "a deity, especially with word (3588) the supreme Divinity." Now let us examine word 3588. This word is the very "ho" placed before the name of God in the first usage in John 1:1.
Given this obvious distinction between theos and ho theos, by the Apostle John, can there be any doubt that Jesus Christ in his pre-human condition was an all together separate being from the God of the universe?
THE HEBREW WORD "ELOHIM"
Numerous times in the Old Testament the Hebrew word elohim is used for the word God. It is often used when referring to the Heavenly Father, but the meaning of elohim is simply "mighty one" or one in authority. Given this, elohim is applied to angels as in Psalm 8:5 "You have made him (the future Messiah) a little lower than the angels (elohim) and have crowned him with glory and honor."
In other instances in the Old Testament elohim is used when speaking of powerful human beings. For instance in Exodus 7:1 Moses is called elohim "See I have made you as God to Pharaoh." Psalm 82:6-7 refers to the saints as elohim "I said you are gods, and all of you are children of the most high God."
FRAUDULENT BIBLICAL PASSAGES IN 1ST JOHN 5:7-8
Further proof that the doctrine of the trinity is false lies in the book of 1st John. Trinitarians have used the words of 1st John 5:7-8 as a key argument for the trinity. "For there are three that bear witness in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit, and these three are one." There is an enormous problem however in using these verses to bolster the trinity doctrine. The passage is not authentic! These words only appear in five later manuscripts and are not found in any of the earlier New Testament texts. These verses are such obvious forgeries that even staunch Trinitarian scholars have been forced to admit as much. Among them are the publishers of the New King James translation and various study bibles.
Let us now take a look at 1st John 5:7-8 in its true context without the spurious passage. "For there are three who bear witness, the spirit, the water, and the blood, and these things agree as one." Upon seeing how these verses are intended to read, it is clear that in no way do they offer a credible argument for the trinity. Now examine verse nine "If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater; for this is the witness of God that he has testified in his SON Jesus Christ." Clearly these passages are talking about two separate beings, the Heavenly Father and his only begotten SON Jesus Christ.
"I AND THE FATHER ARE ONE"
JOHN 10:30
Supporters of the trinity often quote the words of Jesus "I and the Father are one" as proof for Jesus' being God in the flesh. Once again they take the words of Jesus completely out of context. If one examines Jesus' own words later on in the very same gospel of John, he explains this oneness.
On the night of his arrest our Lord prayed in the garden of Gethsemane. He prayed vehemently for the well being of his Apostles. He asks God that "they all may be ONE, as you Father, are in me, and I in you; that they also may be ONE in us, that the world may believe that you sent me. And the glory which you gave me I have given them, and that they may be ONE just as we are ONE." (John 17:21-22)
Clearly Jesus was not asking his Father to make his apostles one in the same person. He was requesting that they be one in thought, purpose, and deed. Jesus Christ and Jehovah, his God and our God, are indeed one, but it is a oneness in their mission. This oneness of purpose can be compared to having a President and a Vice President. They are not the same literal persons, but they are one in representing the office of the presidency.
"HE WHO HAS SEEN ME HAS SEEN THE FATHER"
JOHN 14:9
This passage is often used by trinity advocates as another proof that Jesus was claiming to be God. If we are to take this passage literally, there appears to be serious contradiction in Jesus' words in other scriptures. How can Jesus say "he who has seen me has seen the Father" and in another place say "Not that anyone has seen the Father, except he who is from God; he has seen the Father." (John 6:46) "And the Father himself who sent me, has testified of me. You have neither heard his voice at anytime, nor seen his form." (John 5:37) Or what about the words of John "No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten son, who is in the bosom of the Father has declared him." Then again in (1st John 4:12) "No one has seen God at any time." Thankfully, the scriptures do not contradict themselves. It appears that the true meanings of Jesus’ words are if you have seen him, you have seen the works of the Father. The word "seen" is translated from the Greek word horao (Strongs 3708) which means "to discern clearly."

If your not even willing to debate from what you know, but from what you have to research. Then i'm not debating you but the one who wrote that article. Neither does that article fully adress the disputes that i put forward. Since i'm not debating you, i won't respond to your copy pastes either untill you at least take the effort and the time to try and rebute with your own knowledge and understanding.

Respect the means of debating, and you will get what you give.

Jehova's witnessess are as much christian, as Baha'i's are muslims.

The entire community of christian denominations reject the teachings of jehova's witnessess and/or other sects that think alike.

Muslims love refferering to them, guess the heretic loves the heretic.

Reject the trinity and/or reject jesus diety, and your not a christian anymore. simple as that.

H20 the earliest of earliest christians believe in the trinity, the eastern orthodox are a prime example of this. As did jesus make revealing refferences to God's triune nature... we are to be baptized "in the name of the father, the son and the holy spirit". But then again, you'd just rub it off as corruption while in the same breath you seek islamic prophecies in the same claimed 'corrupted' gospels.

All heretics that denied trinity like arius, muhammed, charles taze russell all came afterwords !! and had little or no knowledge about early christian tradition.

While all the early church fathers who were rooted out of the disciples of the apostles too the jews or the disciples of Paul too the gentiles. Believed in the trinity as is the nature of the trinity all over the bible and cannot be ignored or overlooked. All heretics that didn't believe in a trinity, had nothing to do with christianity, they came later, they changed the message of the gospel and they are the ones that altered texts and theology of the bible.

If i had to make a report on a car accident, i'd rather trust those that were there when it happend, then some guy who comes 5 hours later after it happend when the streets cleaned up and the car is towed away saying that he knows how it really happend.

By the way funny, you give the link to an URL wich explains the trinity as being ONE God. something you arrogantly do not wish to understand but since you've read this site, cleary know how the trinity is to be perceived.

And nowhere does it say that it wasn't believed back then, it's all over the new testament! And of course the word "trinity" isn't mentioned by name, that's only a theological name given to it by Tertullianus 200 years after jesus's life. But the trinity was believed troughout the christian world since it's very dawn, excluding the early heretics of course (wich appeared only later in gnostic, coptic or greek communities).

Because a name isn't mentioned doesn't mean it isn't in there. Tertullianus could of coined it whatever he wanted and we would of repeated it today, the name doesn't matter. That's like saying if a person doesn't call the sun, nova, then the sun doesn't excist... because the sun only excists if you coin it nova.

So if you'd look for "sun" in scripture, you'd only recognize it where it would read nova and overlook where it really was mentioned out of ignorance. In a same way you seek trinity in scripture and overlook where it really shows. Bad reasoning muslim friend.
Whoever is unjust, let him be unjust still. Whoever is righteous, let him be righteous still. Whoever is filthy, let him be filthy still. Listen to the words long written down, When the man comes around.
