I also believe we are tripartate beings, the same way I belive God is a truine God. However, I would like to address some questions to Aieno (as well as you), as I am just confused to exactly what he believes regarding the soul issue.
"I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless..." (1 Thessalonians 5:23)
1. Do we have two or three parts? Are we body, soul, and spirit - or - body, soul/spirit? Dichotomy or trichotomy?
I understand that tuppence and I are in agreement (yes, believe it or not) that we believe we are tripartate beings.
2. what is the difference between the soul and the spirit of man?
3. How were/are human souls created?
I thought Hebrews 4:12 showed clearly that there is a difference between the soul and spirit. Are joints and marrow the same thing? Absolutely not. Are they related? Absolutely. Are even thoughts the same as attitudes? I dont think so, but they are definitely related.
For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. (Hebrews 4:12)
4. The Word of God can divide soul and spirit. If the soul and spirit were the same, how could they be divided?
I think that the soul and spirit are different, yet interrelated. I could however be wrong.
