Apologetics Forum: Ask questions about Christianity/Debate doctrinesIs God sexist? When one interprets the Bible one important thing they should do is examine themsleves. Is there some false motive they have going into their interpretation? Even when it comes to contraversial matters in the Bible, what is your motive? Are you trying to disprove the existance of God, or are you trying to come out of it knowing that which is good? We know God is not sexist, and God is just. So Aineo is right when he says you must put things in its proper context. Also, if you want to make more of a claim for sexism you should have rather quoted verses like 1 Peter 3:7, Husbands, likewise, dwell with them with understanding, giving honor to the wife, as to the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life, that your prayers may not be hindered. This is the best case you can make for sexism, but then this does not even show sexism. When I have played organized sports there was always a captain on our team. I wasn't the captain, but I never complained. I accepted the fact that the other person was better fit. He was not more valuable than I was as a human being, but he was the captian. Also, notice that although females are the weaker vessel, the verse still says that the husband and wife shall be "heirs together of the grace of life." Likewise, the apostle Paul makes these kinds of arguments concerning gifts in the church, but uses the body as a metaphor: 1 Corinthians 12:20-26: 20But now indeed there are many members, yet one body. 21And the eye cannot say to the hand, "I have no need of you"; nor again the head to the feet, "I have no need of you." 22No, much rather, those members of the body which seem to be weaker are necessary. 23And those members of the body which we think to be less honorable, on these we bestow greater honor; and our unpresentable parts have greater modesty, 24but our presentable parts have no need. But God composed the body, having given greater honor to that part which lacks it, 25that there should be no schism in the body, but that the members should have the same care for one another. 26And if one member suffers, all the members suffer with it; or if one member is honored, all the members rejoice with it. We are to accept our role without complaining. Our complaining does not show how unjust God is, it shows how unjust we are with our pride. |
