If we strip all the tradition from what the late Charles Finney said and replace it with what is found in the Scriptures we get a different view of heaven, earth, and hell.
In Scripture hell is synonymous with the grave. The human body decays and our thoughts cease they do not continue to exist in an immortal spirit. Biblically speaking the "soul" is a package deal that consists of the body animated by the spirit (breath).
Genesis 2:7
7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.
NKJV
Psalms 146:3-4
3 Do not put your trust in princes,
Nor in a son of man, in whom there is no help.
4 His spirit departs, he returns to his earth;
In that very day his plans perish.
NKJV
Ecclesiastes 12:6-8
6 Remember your Creator before the silver cord is loosed,
Or the golden bowl is broken,
Or the pitcher shattered at the fountain,
Or the wheel broken at the well.
7 Then the dust will return to the earth as it was,
And the spirit will return to God who gave it.
8 "Vanity of vanities," says the Preacher,
"All is vanity."
NKJV
The concept that hell is a place of torment was imported into Christianity by gentiles who were influenced by Greek philosophy.
The redeemed of the Lord will spend eternity on earth, not in heaven since the Kingdom of God will be set up on earth when the Lord returns to reign as the King of kings and Lord of lords.
