Hello Sister Linda
Not only were the disciples on the road to Emmaus unable to “see Jesus” because they walked by sight and not by faith, there were others of them who failed to recognize the one who they had spent the last three plus years with,
Jn.21: 1 After these things Jesus showed himself again to the disciples at the sea of Tiberias; and on this wise showed he himself. 2 There were together Simon Peter, and Thomas called Didymus, and Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, and the sons of Zebedee, and two other of his disciples. 3 Simon Peter saith unto them, I go a fishing. They say unto him, We also go with thee. They went forth, and entered into a ship immediately; and that night they caught nothing. 4 But when the morning was now come, Jesus stood on the shore: but the disciples knew not that it was Jesus. 5 Then Jesus saith unto them, Children, have ye any meat? They answered him, No. 6 And he said unto them, Cast the net on the right side of the ship, and ye shall find. They cast therefore, and now they were not able to draw it for the multitude of fishes. 7 Therefore that disciple whom Jesus loved saith unto Peter, It is the Lord.
We all know the story of doubting Thomas that by sight did not believe but even more so consider how Mary Magdalene was also blind to the identity of Jesus
Jn.20: 14 And when she had thus said, she turned herself back, and saw Jesus standing, and knew not that it was Jesus. 15 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? whom seekest thou? She, supposing him to be the gardener……...
So not only do we have several examples of the ones who were closest to Him not recognizing him even after he told them he would return to them we also have the prophecy in the passage pointed out by Aineo.
In the passage in Luke the disciples were on a journey of seven days to the city of Emmaus. Now those who study scripture and the significance of numbers know that the number seven has to do with completion and a little research on definitions tells us that Emmaus has to do with baths. These baths are for cleansing, our cleansing and preperation. We are the bride who is to be ready for the bridegroom for when He comes however we need to be cleansed and prepared before we can qualify to be married to Him.. As the scriptures say two that are married are one flesh (one and the same) and cannot walk together unless they be agreed (like minded). The Cross is the start of our seven-day journey that qualifies us and pays the way for us to be cleansed and made ready for His appearing on to us.
Jesus talked about appearing to us on this road to the final place of preparation for the marriage of Him and us when he said the following words.
Jn.14; 2I n my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
Now unless one thinks that Jesus had to go add some sub divisions in heaven with some gold paved roads that are lined with mansions you might want to consider just what this place is that Jesus is preparing (making ready) for us to be together.
As Jesus said the Kingdom of Heaven is within us and that means that a place in us has to be prepared for this kingdom to be ruled from. A kingdom is run by a King and through His laws (remember when He said He would write them on our hearts?) and our hearts is the place that is being prepared. He has come into our hearts in the form of the Holy Spirit for the purpose of sanctifying (cleansing) it and making us ready to become one with Him as He was One with the Father.
So do not be surprised when someone comes into your life while you are along this journey that you may not recognize but is there for your benefit. Jacob was even able to see the face of God in his adversary and brother and as God has said, all things are for our good.
He. 13: 1 Let brotherly love continue. 2 Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.
Peace and Blessings
