Apologetics Forum: Ask questions about Christianity/Debate doctrinesWhat does it mean to be born again? :: I am Born Again!I am Born Again! I'm sorry, but you are sadly mistaken. I feel that I should not be here nitpicking at bible verses. Catholics do not "proof-text" for the sake of defending their faith. Maybe we should because of the Protestants who do. You see, my Catholic faith is more than just the bible. "Sola Scriptura" does not work. Do you think that Jesus started 37,000 churches? That's how many denominations there are; possibly more, there are some that are being started as I write this. I know you will say that you all have the Holy Spirit to guide and teach you, but do you think that ALL 37,000 denominations have the Holy Spirit and listen to Him the way that it should be done? You say that the Church is made up of people who believe? Believe in what? Believe in Whom? Have Faith in what? One should have faith in more than just Jesus and Him being our savior. Everyone has the Holy Spirit teaching them? Yes and No. If that's the case then the Holy Spirit must be awfully confused. So what you say makes no sense. God gave the Holy Spirit to Peter so that he can remain infallible when it comes to teaching Faith and Morals. That is currently Pope Benedict XVI. Peter's actual name is Kepha which means Rock. Rock in Spanish is Piedra (which is close to the Latin). That would be considered the feminine, (not that there is a name such as that for girls, it would actually be "Petra"). So it changed to Pedro which is the masculine. Pedro in English is Peter. Jesus gave Peter the Keys to the Kingdom of Heaven. That SAME Holy Spirit was given to all the disciples AND to Mary, the Mother of God. It was the SAME Holy Spirit, not a confused different one. Do you think that the Bible came first instead of the Church? The birthday of my Catholic Church is on Pentecost; the descent of the Holy Spirit. Catholics celebrate that special day on Pentecost Sunday which falls on June 4th this year. There is so much that needs to be addressed here and a few minutes here or even a few days here will not be enough to even begin to unveil (everything that is Veiled is Holy) my Catholic faith to you; for the Catholic Church is over 2,000 years old; started by Jesus Christ Himself. The Catholic Church is Jesus' Church. These next verses are in the New Testament. However, Peter here is quoting from the Old Testament. I know some Protestants don't even want to consider the Old Testament. But that is History, and those books from the Old Testament were "Sacred Scripture" to the Apostles; for the New Testament books were not put together yet. Anyway, my point is that the Old Testament is VERY Important in making us understand the New Testament. Why? Because the New Testament is HIDDEN in the Old, and the Old Testament is REVEALED in the New. There are many verses in the Bible where the Holy Spirit hovers over the water. Most of the time that the Holy Spirit is there, He is there over water. Check it out for yourself. Here are those same verses but in a different version of a Catholic Bible.
